Vanessa Lovelace & Justice

Ten-year-old Lenny Kaiser loves school, especially math and science. Both he and his mother Vanessa Lovelace, 28, had been looking forward to fall in a new city, a new school. That is, until Lenny’s race apparently became an issue when she tried to enroll her son at the Kenosha Unified School District’s Educational Support Center nearly two weeks ago.

Lovelace said when she filled out enrollment papers, among the things asked was her child’s race. The form includes boxes to check in five major races or ethnic groups. Lenny, who is biracial - his mother is white and his father is black - didn’t have a race that fit the form. So, Lovelace checked the boxes for both black and white.

“She (the secretary) handed the form back to me and said I had to pick one, otherwise, someone would pick his race for me,” Lovelace said. Read more »

How Much Did They Lose???

October 26th, 2008
James Cayne

So just how much did the downturn in the economy cost? If you are a seven-plus figure commanding investor then the losses may have been just as big. But no matter how big the loses were I am sure they are not sitting around the dinner table worried about how they are going to feed the family. What is more important is how much did the economic crash cost you, the regular guy and gal? Compare yourself with this lot…

Zeitgeist: Addendum

The Zeitgeist Movement

The long awaited and slightly behind schedule release of the sequel to 2007’s controversial Internet phenomenon Zeitgeist is now available for viewing. The whole documentary is available at the Zeitgeist website. See also the Zeitgeist movement site (launching October 10th) for more information.

I personally don’t agree with some of the presenters opinions on some of the issues but there is more than enough relevant and informative material to make this documentary a must see.

The Rich Are Staging a Coup… a message from Michael Moore

September 30th, 2008
Michael Moore

Friends, Let me cut to the chase. The biggest robbery in the history of this country is taking place as you read this. Though no guns are being used, 300 million hostages are being taken. Make no mistake about it: After stealing a half trillion dollars to line the pockets of their war-profiteering backers for the past five years, after lining the pockets of their fellow oilmen to the tune of over a hundred billion dollars in just the last two years, Bush and his cronies — who must soon vacate the White House — are looting the U.S. Treasury of every dollar they can grab. They are swiping as much of the silverware as they can on their way out the door.

No matter what they say, no matter how many scare words they use, they are up to their old tricks of creating fear and confusion in order to make and keep themselves and the upper one percent filthy rich. Just read the first four paragraphs of the lead story in last Monday’s New York Times and you can see what the real deal is:

“Even as policy makers worked on details of a $700 billion bailout of the financial industry, Wall Street began looking for ways to profit from it.

“Financial firms were lobbying to have all manner of troubled investments covered, not just those related to mortgages.

“At the same time, investment firms were jockeying to oversee all the assets that Treasury plans to take off the books of financial institutions, a role that could earn them hundreds of millions of dollars a year in fees.

“Nobody wants to be left out of Treasury’s proposal to buy up bad assets of financial institutions.”

Unbelievable. Wall Street and its backers created this mess and now they are going to clean up like bandits. Even Rudy Giuliani is lobbying for his firm to be hired (and paid) to “consult” in the bailout. Read more »

Michael Moore Releases Slacker Uprising for Free Online

September 26th, 2008

Michael Moore has released his new movie free online, the “first major major film to be released in such a way,” according to the Associated Press.

The film, called Slacker Uprising, documents the director’s 62-city tour during the 2004 U.S. presidential election, during which Moore rallied young voters to support Democrat John Kerry.

“I thought it’d be a nice way to celebrate my 20th year of doing this,” Moore said of the freebie release. “And also help get out the vote for November. I’ve been thinking about what I want to do to help with the election this year.”

Moore said the film is definitely aimed at Democrats. “This film really isn’t for anybody other than the choir,” he said. “But that’s because I believe the choir needs a song to sing every now and then.” Read more »

Third Time is the Sweetest…

September 7th, 2008
Serena Williams

The third time is definitely the sweetest. Serena Williams just won her third U. S. Open title. Her opponet, Serbian, Jelena Jankovic refused to go away. She was 5-3, love-40 ahead in the second needing only a point to tie the match at one set a piece. But Serena held her own and rallied to level the match 5-5 in the second set after winning the first set 6-3. She eventually beat Jelena 7-5 in the second set and won the US Open without dropping a set. She regained the number one position in the world by winning the title. Hard work and determination does indeed pay off.
